Courts rule Nuisance is
a State Matter |
Empower the States The States are not powerless over aviation. In spite of what AOPA has been telling FAA and the pilots, the States do have a role to play. The federal courts have upheld this concept. Read about it here. The FAA tells pilots how to fly. It is not unreasonable for the states to tell the pilots what activities they may not engage in while flying. Aerobatics certainly comes to mind. The problem is that too many states are only interested in the revenue aspects of aviation at the expense of the health and quality of life of their citizens. In addition, the states and airport communities are often held hostage by the onerous requirements attached to past aviation improvement grants from the federal government. We send our money to Washington so our representatives can look like they are doing something by giving some back. The state and local officials will sign almost anything to get "free money" from Washington. The trap is set and sprung. The citizens are bound forever to AOPA. In America, as in any democratic republic, you get the
government you deserve. Explain it to you elected officials. As Peter
Schmidt, one of the founders of AFSA, now NEFSA, once said "We don't want this to become
something that someone thinks they can get elected on." We must make NOISE and LOCAL CONTROL of RECREATIONAL AVIATION issues that decide the outcome of elections. That means we must get our representatives in Washington onboard or replace them with good people. We must throw the store-bought friends of aviation out of office.
