Courts rule Nuisance is
a State Matter | The Web of Misinformation You can't believe everything you read on the web I really hate performing damage control. The damage involved often results because somebody was less careful than he should have been. Other times it results from willful and malicious acts of sabotage. In either case precious resources must now be expended to make things right. It is not the most productive way to spend one's time. I was recently contacted by an irate pilot who found a comment allegedly made by an STN member posted on a local TV station's web site coverage of a private plane crash into a residential neighborhood. The poster claimed to be a member of STN and to be speaking for STN. In the posted comment the author ranted about stopping private aviation. Such rants do not help our cause. They result in my spending time and bandwidth publishing disclaimers such as this so that we can keep the discussion on what is important to us - maintaining control over our private lands and the sky that is an inseparable part of those lands. Ending private or general aviation has never been an objective of STOP the NOISE. Our objective is to ensure that the property owners in whose airspace flight occurs maintain control over when, where, how and if flight occurs there. Writing such inflammatory posts to public or private web sites or other media is counterproductive. The official positions of STOP the NOISE are found on this web site. Our members have every right to tell the world how they feel about anything. Some of our members do seem at times to be pretty irate - and most often with good reason. However, I ask everyone to realize that our members' individual opinions do not necessarily represent the position of STN. If you did not read it here, it is not the official position of STOP the NOISE, Inc. I ask our members to please refrain from posting your private opinions as those of STN. As you can see, it sometimes does more harm than good. I understand your anger, but try to channel it productively. We are engaged in intelligent discussions with numerous individuals and agencies. We do not need rogue policy statements published on the web by anonymous individuals. Please also note that the most commonly used weapon of the aviation community is misinformation. Much is clearly intentional. Whether erroneous information is fed into the rumor mill intentionally as an act of sabotage or as a result of emotional outbursts by well-intentioned sympathizers, in this electronic age, once posted it achieves eternal life. Once on the web it is there forever. Think before you post. Bill Burgoyne
